I now have another tip under my belt. The trip went well and I was able to see new things. Each year I find something new and exciting. I also like to visit some of the same places because they are so beautiful. Here are just a few pictures from my trip. Please click on the link to see all of them. There was no way I could put even some of the pictures I wanted to put on my blog do to the fact that there are so many places and things we saw. Click HERE

Mammoth Family Fun

The Chalmers’ and the Hanshaw’s invade Mammoth.

It was a weekend of family fun. Miles, Loren, and I have been snowboarding before. Mike has skied before, but it’s been a while. Quintin and Lucinda were new to all this snow stuff. Lucinda was on skis and Q was on his new snowboard. We started off with the bunny slop where Lucinda did well as she made her way down the slope. Quintin was struggling a bit more and took his fill of falls on the icy snow. Slowly he was beginning to figure it out and was getting better each run. On Lucinda’s second run there was a miscalculation on the option of runs to go down. It seems that there were no beginner runs off the lift we had just taken. Poor Lucinda was stuck trying to go down a steeper (intermediate) slope than she was ready to go down. Quintin made it down the run by plowing. This is not as easy to do on skis. After the point of trying and then frustration, it was decided that Lucinda would walk down the run. (Now you know why there are bars at the end of the runs.) I boarded down carrying her skis as Miles walked up the slope to giver her a hug for support. Both our beginners were such troopers. They both gave it another try after lunch. Way to go!
The next day Lucinda decided to rest from her day of skiing. We once again hit the bunny slope where a much-improved Quintin was making his way down. The slope was slushy the day before so in turn it was ice in the morning. Near the bottom of the run Quintin fell. He said his wrist hurt. We knew his left wrist was sore from the day before, but now his right one hurt. Lucinda took him to the hospital to get it looked at as the rest of us had some great runs. It was fun to stay as a group and watch as Mike, and Loren went down the slopes. Miles does his traditional dive bomb down the slopes. You don’t get to watch Miles much; he is gone in a blink of an eye. Later in the day we got the call that Quintin had broken his right wrist and sprained his left. Oh my gosh, poor guy. We were all glad to hear that it did not dampen his spirits for the sport.
I had a wonderful time with everyone. It was fun to see everyone having fun in the snow.

Mammoth Jan 2008

Trip number two to Mammoth. Mako and Alin, our good friends, drove up with us, spent the weekend and drove back with us. I hope they are still our friends after all that time with the Hanshaw’s. HAHAHHAHA There were also a few other friends that met us there as well. Saturday’s weather was great. Mako, Alin, Miles and I spent pretty much the whole day together. We did split at the end of they day as Miles and I wanted to finish our day with a bus ride to the car. Mako and Alin wanted to board back across the mountain to the car. You would think the people taking the bus would get to the car faster. Not in this case. Miles and I made a wrong turn at Albuquerque. We found ourselves stuck in the snow. Our boards just did a nosedive and we were stuck. Miles’ board not only did a nosedive, but he did a few flips along with it. We spent about 20-30 minutes or so just to get out of that 400-meter area. Not much fun. The next day brought snow and wind. Mako and Alin headed out into the weather for a while until it got too ugly for them and they came back to the condo were we were hanging out. We still had a good time. Mako and Alin make for good traveling partners.
We also saw the brightest rainbow anyone had ever seen. Amazing.

Miles having some breakfast.

Trying to dig out the truck so we can go home. All that snow in one night.

Oustide the condo.

Our room.
The snow piled up to the sliding door in our room.

Am I even driving in a lane?

Mako and Alin after a morning of boarding.

A perfect way to end our trip. The rainbow and the fact that we stocked up on more bread.
